Deck 1-3 Art, Format Updates, and More!
– Thu, Mar 17, 2022 at 11:18:45 PM
Greetings All!
I am here with another update, and I’ve tried to pack in as much information and insight as I can. These updates will hopefully continue their trend of 1-2 Months (this one was 3 and I started to mildly panic) as we have major progress and stay as packed with information as I can manage. If you have any questions, message me here or on Discord, and I will get to them as soon as possible.
Seriously, I would love to hear from you and share updates or answers. I am on the PC possibly too often working on this, so I welcome the interaction. That aside, let's get started!
What have you been up to, Hos?
Oh so very much. This project has been the largest I’ve undertaken, and the growing pains have been persistent. I have learned so much, mastered (or at least learned) so many new aspects, and worn new hats that I could not be prouder of where we currently are. In this update I will get as many details as I can so that you can see into the process, targeting the following. A lot of these were touched on in update 13, but are now complete or expanded.

Deck Edits:
This is by far the biggest. This involved the transfer of items new and old to documents for review by Tony of SpectreCreations for final review and balancing. This was a carefully controlled process and one of the biggest time investments. Tony even welcomed a newborn during his tenure on this project! The man is a treasure, and I couldn’t be happier with his work.
Example of this first steps:
These were gathered up from Google Drives, the Art Files, and just about anywhere I could find the completed text.
From there, I took these updated documents and transferred them into the new and streamlined card format. Which includes updated or new icons, specific wording, and positioning that has updated over the years. While it was complicated, this was one of the most engaging parts of the project. Time consuming, but thrilling to see the older items get a new life. Below is any example of the card formats over the years and the new Core Format.
Deck Art: Updated art has been finalized!
As mentioned in the last update, all Item Art was being updated or tweaked to meet current standards. This was a massive process and I am rather proud of how they have turned out thus far. So proud in fact, here are the Front Card Images from Deck 1 to 3.
Note: These are not close too but not final images, I did this collection so that I could uniformly match the height and display of the cards as a whole. Some items have been shifted, shrunk, or altered to better fit the deck display.
What are the Faded Images?
These are special cards, including but not limited to Special Rule cards for the image they represent. One such card that is mentioned Below!
Guest Art:
For you eagle eyes out there. Yes, that is a rendition of ‘The Undertide,’ a summon-able ship by the All Hands item. I was lucky enough to get an incredible rendition done by the immensely talented Kroov Art.
There are several new or altered cards (covering item creation or custom rules for an item) that I have rendered, but this one seemed spot on for Kroov’s style and talent. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
Where are Decks 4 & 5? They have also gone through the polishing pass and will be making their sparkling debut within the next update. I really don’t want to run out of cool new things.
Deluxe Storage Book Update:
Honestly. This was one of the reasons for a continued delay. The original design had issues, so the sliding level was moved to the front of the box. After further developing that, it was found that the upper level would be too heavy for the box to support. Causing yet another delay.
To solve this, the sizes of the levels were swapped as well as their contents and re-submitted. Two weeks ago it was approved by the manufacturer for production, so waves of stress have flowed from me. They are adapting the size changes and artwork for approval, and we should be underway with the mass production! I am hoping this is all behind us now.
Digital Delivery: This is still priority after Confirmed shipping, while the content is finished. The manpower isn’t there to be able to monitor and proof two projects. While this is making its way over oceans, I will be consulting converters for Online Platforms and personally handling the collected Digital Versions.
Where does this leave you Hos?: It's been a wide ride transitioning to full time, as well as knowing when to let go. I hyper-ocus, and tend to lose track of the world around me, for a while there it was not the best. I won’t get too far into it, but I am sleeping more now to the relief of everyone. I have secured a home after a grueling hunt and several lost bids, which is another big relief. This has ensured the safety of a lot of my next steps over the next few months, including my own work space. It's a work in progress, but I’m starting to see that Balance everyone talks about between work and life. I am ever so thankful for all of you supporting me while I found it. I'm doing better.
Shipping:
No big news on this, I wish there was. If you have backed other KS’s it's currently the same story of delays and shipping woes. I have been told we are not affected yet and still rolling towards the previous update goal with confidence. World events being as they are, cost has been affected, but I have factored a majority of that into the budget and have been promised active updates if anything timeline related changes. I’m an optimist, but I originally wanted this product in your hands this month so it is a hard pill to swallow.
Shipping charges for you via Fulfillment will still be charged closer to actual delivery dates when we have product in hand, so fingers crossed for quick resolution and recovery. If this last month taught us anything, its that everything can instantly change on a global scale. From a little publisher standpoint, that is terrifying. Hoping for nothing but positive news from here on out.
It wouldn’t be an update without a Project I Love, please give it a read. It is from a dear friend who has been an invaluable resource in this project and helped me along the way.

Project I Love: The Griffon's Saddlebag: Book Two!
Griff is one of the people who got me to start making, and I am so very happy to be able to call him a friend. He has helped me out immensely in assurances and guidance in this post Kickstarter success. If you love my items, you’ll like their work! (Its really cool.)
In Mostly Their Words: Each item has been carefully written and balanced using established precedents, ensuring that they're both easy to understand and won't disrupt the balance of your campaign. Make your treasure more rewarding!
And if you want to really know what you're getting into, Griff's giving out a free, seventeen-page sample of 56 of the book's itemshere, and a forty-nine page one of 3 of the book's example setting optionshere!
--------------------------------------
As always, Thank You. I am still diligently working away at presenting the best possible product, it is all coming together so well. I cannot wait to get it into your hands, and I’m slowly learning to accept I can’t do everything at once while still doing my absolute best.

– Fri, Oct 15, 2021 at 12:13:08 PM
Greetings All!
One birthday and some troubleshooting later, and the surveys are good to go!
Since we are sending without shipping prices, here is a great summary blurb from Backerkit to help us all understand what that means a little better. Don’t forget to check out the attached project, it's pretty incredible and you might recognize some of the styles and animations on the page.
It’s made by a friend, this community is pretty amazing in that way. Anyway, more on the Surveys!
-----------------------------------------
Soon, you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit survey. It’s essential to respond to your survey as quickly as possible since we need this information to fulfill your rewards.
You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!
After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts.
Due to the volatility of shipping prices globally right now, shipping fees for this project will be calculated at a later date once we have the best estimates for everyone. We plan to enter & charge backers for shipping a month or two before fulfillment when we have better estimates of what it will cost to ship backers rewards. We will alert backers when shipping costs are finalized & before we charge your cards in your BackerKit survey. The shipping fee you will see on your survey now will not be the final amount, and will be updated at a later date. We will keep you informed all along the way!
If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under “Lost your survey?” on our BackerKit project page at https://ds-ks.backerkit.com
If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact support at https://ds-ks.backerkit.com/faq
After surveys are sent, and you did not receive the email, and you Signed in with Apple through Kickstarter., your email address might be a private relay email address. We can help locate your survey and update your email address, please message us through Kickstarter with your Backer ID # found on your Kickstarter confirmation. You can learn more about your email hiding for your Apple ID here.
Ollie has been a pal, and comrade in creation for over a year now. We prepped our KS’s together and they put in the same late nights as a one person team. I could not be more proud or blown away by what they’ve put together. They even have cross compatibility with Heliana’s Guide to Monster Hunting, which is another great team and super pals of ours. They published this book, and if you remember from previous updates were instrumental in mine!
In Their Words:ATLAS is a TTRP-game-changer: a binder of 100 huge, hand-drawn battle maps, 2 decks of thrilling ready-to-run combat and mystery encounters, and a plethora of reusable vinyl stickers lets you be ready for any event! Cut down on prep time and be perpetually prepared for any turn your adventurers might take!
Again, check it out Hereand let Ollie know where you came from.
As always, Thank You. This is my full time project, and I am diligently working away at presenting the best possible product. I cannot wait to get this into your hands and share more behind the scenes info in weeks to come.

Backerkit Survey Update & The Red Opera!
– Tue, Oct 05, 2021 at 10:46:55 PM
Greetings All!
I wanted to give you all a quick update, Surveys are on the horizon!
Kickstarter has finished processing pledges, and now it is the small task of having Backerkit approve the surveys. It is taking a little longer due to the first time Kickstarter and authentication but after this we should be set for sending surveys.
This review period can take up to 48 hours, but afterwards we'll be fully underway. As a small reminder, shipping will not be collected until we are much closer to the date. This protects us all from the current international shipping climate.
If you would like, you can check out the Backerkit Store and familiarize yourself with what is currently up. The Surveys should follow shortly, but you’ll see another announcement from me then.
I am the next unlockable stretch goal of this Kickstarter!
I had the pleasure of meeting Satine Phoenix and Stone Jamison at GenCon and they invited me to be their first stretch goal of their Tarot Deck KS! What does this mean? I get to be the 1st to make an item for their new Deck. Having been a big fan of this world for a while, it seems like a natural fit to be able to do an item within the Red Opera universe.
Brought to you by Apotheosis Studios, this Warlock-inspired deck is filled with details from The Red Opera: Last Days of the Warlock, and includes re-envisioned fan-favorite art for the Major Arcana and all-new illustrations for the Minor Arcana!
With the accompanying Storyteller's Quick Reference Guide to The Shadelands, you can not only use this dark fantasy deck for Tarot and Playing Cards, but also as prompts for new 5E Spells, Magic Items, Characters, Locations, and Adventure hooks.
This is truly something worth Checking Out from some of the cornerstones of TTRPG Community that I am quite humbled to call friends.
As always, thank you for your patience. Be Safe & Keep Playing!

Greetings All!
Holy Smokes. What a trip this has been. First of all, thank you for your support through this process, it has been a life changer. To keep you all aprised on Magical Oddities, I will be sending out project updates once a month to keep you accessed on fullfillment.
While I am unable to process cards or submit Surveys until Kickstarter has finished processing pledges. I have completed the Backerkit: Pre-Order Store. This means that anyone that has missed their late pledge update, or wanted an additional add-on is able to use this service.
Orders from the Backerkit Store, will not be charged until the Kickstarter fully processes the pledges and we are able to move forward with Backerkit.
Shipping:
You have not been charged shipping, and likely will not be for another two months.
Shipping costs around the world are fluctuating with the COVID-19 delays, and I do not want to charge until we have accurate weights for the shipping. While I do not expect delays, and have purposefully left an extra month window in our shipping times, international shipping has been a dice roll since this all started.
I have faith in our fulfillment teams, and will keep you updated every step of the way.
Thank You:
While I owe numerous thanks, and I am on the subject of teams. I want to give a personal thank you and shoutout to my good friends from the Heliana’s Team. Aggi (Mo) and Max, who helped me with all of the hiccups and panics that come before launching your first Kickstarter.
They have combined forces to start a publishing wing, that will be known as Loot Tavern Publishing. If the treatment I received is any indicator, you are in good hands with them.
Projects I Love 1/2: Skinny Minis by Dungeon in a Box.
When I got back from GenCon, a sample of these were waiting for me. I’ve recommended them to everyone and now I want to share them with you. These are incredible, when I say they look even better in person I 100% mean it. Easy setup and easy takedown, I can’t wait to surprise my players with them in the future. They are stunning, and make setting up a breeze.
In Their Words: Our aim is to create affordable, convenient miniature solutions without sacrificing quality. Printed of beautiful, crystal clear acrylic. Durable and die cut so your minis can ‘live’ on the table. We achieve amazing levels of detail in a mini-sized space, creating a more immersive experience. We only use the best artist to provide exciting character for each and every piece. Each mini is truly a work of art.
I can't wait to see how many I can get my hands on, again Click Here to check it out.
I cut my teeth on adventures within Neverwinter Nights by a small company called Bioware, notably I joined right when the Underdark dropped. All of that 3.5e hacking goodness made me what I am today… paranoid of webs and darkness. This seems to bring a great deal of those memories flooding back, and I am quite excited for it!
In Their Words:Secrets of the Drow Trilogy will be approximately 160 pages if all stretch goals are unlocked, and available in hardcover, softcover, and digital format.
The adventures are designed for characters of level 4 to 6, but include scalable encounters to suit any level from 1 to 20. The compendium The Drÿnaeri’s Dark Library will contain new monsters, magical items, spells, and more. It will also feature unlocked stretch goals and be available to all backers.
I could never thank you enough, but I want to shift focus to the work ahead so I will try to limit platitudes towards you to these closing areas from now on. You are titans, together you’ve moved mountains in my life, and I am forever grateful.
